I love all of this! The zine inspired art makes my 80s teen self so happy! I fancied myself a writer, editor of the school paper for four years, plus editor of our literary magazine. How I ended up going into photography still mystifies me. I was going to be Tama Janowitz and work for Details, so I started writing short stories and poems (think Tama and Anne Sexton rip offs, lol) and submitting to zines. I ended up being published in one called "Lime Green Bulldozers" and was sure I was destined to beome A Great Writer, lol. Anyway, this week I was digging through my cedar chest in search of some old photos, and I found them! Plus both of my high school literary magazines (titled "Pleonastic" and "Death At The Carnival" respectively). Now to get up the nerve to scan and post some of it!
I love the idea of damaged art. I have a project in the works that is in that lane too! Not sharing too much yet, as it's a recent mind baby still figuring out how to toddle forward!
I actually haven't read Janowitz! For some reason her work didn't reach me on the Canadian west coast like Ellis did. Which book of hers do you recommend I start with?
Texas weather is as bipolar as it can be, tpyicals weather changes vary from mid 80s one day to hail thunderstorma the next. Awesome insight to the art design! Very col seeing the kitten bitten aftermath, and huge props on finishing up dual music projects, that book already seems pretty gnarly in design!
I love SO much about this post! The candid insights into your creative processes! The physical texture of the label maker! Three new songs on the upcoming album! The Runaway lyrics on an amazing picture of the desert (I would love a copy of that - to go along with my tattoo!) Thanks, merci, miigwetch!!
Thanks Dean! We could certainly get you a print of the Runaway spread if you're interested. I haven't seen that Cohen doc, but I do like him quite a bit. I saw his retrospective "A Crack in Everything" at the Jewish Museum in NYC, right before the pandemic.
Also, have you seen the Leonard Cohen documentary Hallelujah in which a central theme is the huge number of versions of lyrics he wrote as he worked toward the recorded versions?
Congratulations on nearing the finish line of the Leathers album. I can’t wait to hear it! Ultraviolet is my favorite, so far, of your singles. I’m glad it’s remained the title track. Best of luck with all your endeavors.
Oh man, I get a little more excited the closer we get to Cruel World. I saw you at Cold Waves. At the time, didn't know ACTORS. It was a cool surprise to see you and Kendall are both.

Cold Waves was so fun. It's always such a treat to play The Metro.
Bob needs the DYMO to label the catnip PROPERTY OF BOB
Haha yes!!
The chewed up cover"In Real Life" definitely represents what life can be like sometimes. Not always perfect but maybe more interesting that way!
So true!
I'm in the northeast of the US, Newport to be exact, so we've been having a very similar weather pattern. The Dymo looks amazing.
